David West (basketball)

David Moorer West (born August 29, 1980, in Teaneck) is a power forward for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets. West is considered one of the game's most promising young power forwards, and his playing style is compared to Karl Malone. He attended Hargrave Military Academy. He was awarded 1st Team All-State honors in North Carolina. After a four-year career at Xavier University, he was named National Player of the Year in 2003, winning both the Adolph Rupp Trophy and the Oscar Robertson Trophy. He also was voted onto the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2000, named Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press, Atlantic 10 player of the year (bycoaches in 2001, 2002, 2003) West was the 18th overall selection of the 2003 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets.

West came in second in voting for the NBA Most Improved Player Award for the 2005-06 season, behind Boris Diaw of the Phoenix Suns.[1]

He completed his degree in communications, his favortie team before joining the NBA was the San Antonio Spurs, his favorite players were Tim Duncan and David Robinson. He is also an accomplished musician; he played the tuba.
