David Leslie Taylor (born 22 August 1946, Ashby de la Zouch) is a politician in the United Kingdom, and is Labour and Co-operative Member of Parliament (MP) for North West Leicestershire. He was first elected in 1997.
David Taylor is married with four daughters (and one son deceased) and one granddaughter. Before being elected as a Member of Parliament he was an accountant and the computer manager for a large organisation. His views are to the left of the Labour Party and he is widely regarded as one of the parliamentary rebels. In 2005 he was nominated for the 'Backbencher of the Year' award.
Often criticised for allegedly doing little to improve the shopping area of his local town centre. [citation needed]. Despite NW Leicestershire featuring highly in the UK wealth league, Coalville, at least in retail terms, is said to be a town in recession. Improving the shopping amenities is a project Mr Taylor has so far resisted taking on, preferring to work to promote healthy eating and campaigning against smoking. He regularly attends local events, often making it to more than one function in an evening in order to be seen to be there, to show his support and to maintain his already high profile.
