David S. Goyer

David S. Goyer is a comic book writer, screenwriter, and film director. He was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is an alumnus of Huron High School and the University of Southern California.

Goyer has written or co-written several films, including The Crow: City of Angels, Dark City, Blade, and Blade II. He both wrote and directed ZigZag and Blade: Trinity. He also served as script polisher on Freddy vs. Jason and was the co-writer and story creator on Batman Begins.

Goyer has also helped create the basis of story for its upcoming sequel The Dark Knight with Batman Begins director Christopher Nolan, the screenplay to be scripted by Jonathan Nolan (Memento).
Goyer is now working on an adaptation of The Flash, and has also written the working treatment for the film adaptation of Marvel's Thor. He also directed The Invisible, a film to be released in 2007.
In addition to writing the film, Goyer is also executive producer for the 2007 Ghost Rider film, a position he served for many of the films he wrote and directed.

For television, he wrote the Nick Fury: Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. television movie, as well as the pilot for the Blade television series and Threshold series.

Goyer wrote almost 50 issues of Justice Society of America for DC Comics.

- Goyer was a student of screenwriter Nelson Gidding at USC, and frequently returned to Gidding's class as a guest speaker. He graduated in 1988 and sold his first screenplay, for Death Warrant (1990), in 1989. With his first paycheck he bought a new Land Rover, which was stolen the first night he drove it home.
- Goyer wrote all three of the Blade movies, producing both sequels and directing the 3rd movie Blade: Trinity. Since the end of the film franchise, he has helped develop the Blade tv series, acting as an Executive Producer to the show and writing the feature-length pilot episode.
- While in post-production for Blade: Trinity, he created the story for, and co-wrote the script for Batman Begins at the request of its director, Christopher Nolan.
- Goyer also wrote a treatment for a film featuring the Spider-Man villain Venom as a lead character. The script, which featured characters from both Marvel and DC comics, was never produced.
- Other than the Blade tv series, he also wrote the pilot to sci-fi series Threshold. It was cancelled after 10 episodes of its 13 part season.
- Goyer has expressed interest in a Deadpool movie.
- Goyer sold his life's collection of comic books to System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan.
