David S. Bieri

David S. Bieri is a doctoral student at the School of Public & International Affairs at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

[edit] Professional history
From 1999 until 2006, he held various senior positions at the Bank for International Settlements, most recently as the Adviser to the General Manager and CEO. From 2002 to 2004, he held the positon of Head of Business Development in which capacity he was responsible for new financial products and services and reserve management advisory for central banks. From 2004 to 2005, Mr Bieri worked as an economist in the BIS' Monetary & Economics Department, where he was primarily responsible for research dissemination and fostering co-operation with regional central banking groups.
Prior to joining the BIS, Mr Bieri worked as a high yield analyst at Banker's Trust in London and in fixed-income syndication at Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich.

Born in Berne, Switzerland, Mr Bieri holds a B.Sc. in monetary economics from the London School of Economics and an M.Sc. in international finance from Durham University.

Mr. Bieri's primary research interests are in international finance, monetary economics and applied regional economics. He is a member of the Swiss Society of Economics and Statistics and is also a regular speaker at central bank workshops and conferences.
