David Reisman (born August 8, 1958) is a contemporary American artist, writer and editor. He studied art at the University of Kansas and received an MFA in painting from the University of Illinois in 1982. In 1991, he earned an Ed.D. at Columbia University. His dissertation focuses on the educational development and practice of artists Martha Rosler, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Tim Rollins, and Group Material members Doug Ashford, Julie Ault, and Karen Ramspacher.
Reisman's artwork often features irrational imagery, and a number of his drawings, paintings and prints are directly based on dreams. In 2004, Hornbill Press published Foreign Objects: Dream Drawings, a selection of work from his 1995-96 dream journals.
In the 1980s and 90s, Reisman published art reviews and articles in Artscribe and Tema Celeste, and his writing has also appeared in Millennium Film Journal, Acme Journal and Texte zur Kunst. Since 1993, he has edited a wide variety of educational publications for PBS programs at Thirteen/WNET New York.
