David Pownall was born in Liverpool. He was educated at Keele University and worked for ten years in the motor industry and Zambian copper mining. Founder of Paines Plough, his plays include 'Masterclass' and 'Elgar's Rondo'. Pownall has also written radio drama, novels, short stories and poetry.
