David Mitchell (footballer)

David Mitchell (born 1965 in Scotland) is an Australian football (soccer) player. He moved to Australia as a teenager. He began his professional career with Adelaide City in 1981, and made his Australia debut against Taiwan that same year. He made 44 appearances, scoring 13 goals. He also played throughout Europe before returning to Australia to coach Sydney Olympic, Sydney United and Parramatta Power in the National Soccer League. He is currently the assistant manager to Ron Smith at A-League club Perth Glory signed by the club for the 2006/2007 season. In recent times he has appeared as a guest on several occasions for the Australian cable television channel Fox sports 1 which cover the English Premier League.

David was one of the first Australians to play their trade internationally, with appearances in:
- Scotland for Rangers F.C
- England for Chelsea F.C, Newcastle United, Millwall and Swindon Town
- Germany for Eintracht Frankfurt
- Netherlands for Feyenoord Rotterdam
- Turkey for Altay SK
- Hong Kong for Seiko
- Malaysia for Selangor
before returning to Australia as player/coach for NSL clubs Sydney Olympic and Sydney United.

David's coaching career in the NSL spanned six seasons and 154 matches, in which he recorded 68 wins, 31 draws and 55 losses. When he returned from playing in Europe he was a player/coach for clubs Sydney Olympic and Sydney United. Some of the coaching achievements that he had in Australia was a Grand Final appearance in 1998/99 with Sydney United and also being the inaugural coach of Parramatta Power in 1999/00. His last known coaching role was with Malaysia second tier club Sarawak and he left due to unpaid wages.
