David Valentine Lawrence (born January 28, 1964, Gloucester) is a former English cricketer who played in 5 Tests and one ODI from 1988 to 1992. David "Syd" Lawrence was a massively powerful fast-bowler for Gloucestershire and England in the late 80s and early 90s before a horrific knee injury curtailed his career. He came into the England team for the one off Test against Sri Lanka in 1988, but did not force his way back until 1991, when he took 5 wickets and contributed to Englands series levelling win at the Oval. However, having just established himself as his country's spearhead, he suffered an appalling knee injury in New Zealand while playing for his country the following winter, and never came close to playing for England again.
He made two brief but abortive comebacks for Gloucestershire.
