David Lansana

Brigadier David Lansana was the army commander of Sierra Leone in 1967. He came from the Mende tribe and as such was part of one of the larger tribes of Sierra Leone.
He orchestrated a coup of Sierra Leone in March, 1967 but within days was overthrown by non-Mende military subordinates. Lt.-Colonel Andrew Juxon-Smith, of the Krio community, who was abroad when the coup took place, was asked to head the military regime the National Reformation Council, NRC.
