David Goodman Croly

David Goodman Croly (1829-89) was and American journalist, born in New York and educated at New York University. He was associated with the Evening Post and the Herald (1854-58) and then became editor and subsequently managing editor of the World. In 1872 he predicted the panic of 1873 and the failure of Jay Cooke & Co. and the Northern Pacific Railroad. From 1872 to 1878 he was editor of the Daily Graphic. He married "Jennie June" in 1856. His published works include Seymour and Blair: Their Lives and Services, with an appendix containing a History of Reconstruction (1868), and a Primer of Positivism (1876). He was the father of Herbert D. Croly.
