[edit] Newcastle United Career

After impressing in trials for numerous clubs including Celtic, Edgar was offered a scholarship at the Newcastle United Academy, which he accepted. He joined the Academy officially at the age of sixteen.

Edgar impressed Spanish side Málaga CF in September, 2005 when Newcastle played the La Liga club in a friendly game. Malaga, as well as a few English clubs, declared an interest in signing him. However, Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd was quick to announce that Edgar was not for sale, and that he has been given a new contract by the club to ward off any further interest.[1]

Although Edgar is yet to appear in a senior match, he has vowed to continue to fight hard for his spot on the Newcastle United side, by attempting to impress the staff in reserve and youth team matches through his performances.

[edit] Canadian national football team

On May 19, 2006, whilst celebrating his nineteenth birthday, David helped the Canadian Under-20 side beat a strong Brazilian Under-20 side 2-1, by scoring a fantastic first half volleyed goal.[2]

In 2007, he will help hosts Canada compete for the Under-20 World Cup. He is also likely to be named in the Canadian national side in the qualifying stages for World Cup 2010, which will be held in South Africa.
