David B. Ashley

David B. Ashley is the eighth and current president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, appointed to the position on July 1, 2006. Of his initial $400,000 salary, $230,000 will be supplied by the university and $170,000 will be provided by the UNLV Foundation. Previously, he served as the founding executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Merced starting in 2001 and was the dean of the College of Engineering at the Ohio State University.
He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Stanford University in 1977 and has held faculty positions at UC Berkeley, the University of Texas at Austin and MIT.
