During his second term he received wide criticism from the town council and many citizens of Woodstock, New Brunswick (the largest community in his riding, which is also named Woodstock) due to his support of the government's plan to close the hospital in the town and relocate it to the outskirts of Hartland, New Brunswick. Notwtihstanding this, he was re-elected in the 2006 to a third term though he left the cabinet as his party formed the opposition.
