Dave Syverson (born June 29, 1957) is a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate representing the 34th district, where he is currently serving his fourth term. He was elected in 1992 as part of a group of conservative state senators dubbed the "fab five" who often challenged the leadership of the Illinois Republican Party; other members of the "fab five" included, Peter Fitzgerald, Patrick O'Malley, Steve Rauschenberger, and Chris Lauzen.
Syverson was instrumental in nominating Alan Keyes to serve as the Republicans' Senate candidate in 2004. Keyes proved to be divisive and only received 27% of the vote. Syverson has clashed with Republican Judy Baar Topinka on this and several other issues. [1]
