Dave Jonsen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dave Jonsen is the stage name of an American music producer and remixer - who also dons the names Harvey Dent, based off the DC Comics character; and sometimes also employ the names "Nightshift" and "Ghost Dogg". He was born Gordon C. (1976) in Northern England to a Nigerian father and a Guyanese mother. He currently now resides in Brooklyn, New York City.

Dave (though virtually unknown) is mostly noted for his impressive remixes of songs from mainstream artists such as Eminem's "Till I Collapse", Nas's "Warrior Song"; and Cassidy's "I'm A Hustla" with its intriguing but equally unconventional sound; - all of which appealed to underground hip-hop fans. In early 2001, he began his producing career releasing several electronica albums under his old aliases for listeners of instrumental experimental music that centered around the Ambient genre. Though musical experimentation is his first love, he was always inspired by the rhythmical innovations of Pete Rock, Jay Dee, DJ Premier, Madlib, DJ Shadow and many other influential hip-hop producers spanning back to the early 1990's. Consequently after a series of unsuccessful albums - due to inexperience in marketing and no means to raise capital - he focused his creative energies towards the hip-hop genre to produce remixes of well-known artists to obtain exposure. Moreover, similar to another innovative producer - 9th Wonder; one of the attributes that make Jonsen's production methods unique, is that, the tools of his craft involve nothing else but a home computer and an extensive collection of modern; digital samples and loops.
