Davanagere, also known as Davangere, (Kannada:ದಾವಣಗೆರೆ) is one of the major cities in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is the administrative headquarters of Davanagere District. Davanagere City is located on NH4 at a distance of about 260 km away from Bangalore.

Previously known for its cotton mills, it is one of the fast developing cities of Karnataka.

Davanagere is famous for textiles and its higher educational institutes. It has two Dental colleges, three engineering colleges,one medical and One Fashion design College.A number of other colleges offering courses in arts, commerce and science. The student population is made up of the people from different cities and states in India. There are a limited number of foreign students studying at Davanagere. Davanagere has Chigeteri Mills.

Sooole kere (Shanthi Sagara), near Davanagere is Asia's second biggest man made lake. [citation needed]. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Siddeshwara near the lake. An Aquaduct constructed by Sir M Vishweshwariah is also a major tourist attraction.

A major attraction of Davanagere is the "Durgambika Devi (the grama devi or local deity)" Jatre (fest) that is conducted once in 2 years in the month of March/April. The celebrations continue for more than 10 days.

Davangere is also famous for its special eatables, Benne Dose, Mandakki-Menasinakaayi and Gulladaki Undi.
