Daughter of the Nine Moons
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daughter of the Nine Moons is a fictional title in the fantasy series The Wheel of Time by author Robert Jordan.
The actual Daughter of the Nine Moons is Tuon Athaem Kore Paendrag, a young woman who is the daughter of the Empress of the Seanchan. Having done some great error, she has been wearing a veil and, until that comes off, is known only as High Lady Tuon. She is small in size, almost child-sized, and has dark skin and short, dark hair.
She makes her first appearance in Winter's Heart , where we see her landing in Ebou Dar just shortly after the city is taken. This also allows her to be in the same vicinity as Mat, whom according the Aelfinn, she is to marry. The two lead each other on a merry "chase" through the palace, until Mat attempts to escape Ebou Dar with some Seanchan prisoners and is caught by Tuon, who he grabs in an attempt to silence and is told that she is the Daughter of the Nine Moons, a statement that leads him to say that she is to be his wife.
The "Nine Moons" is in reference to the Palace or Court that in which her Mother resides.
During Knife of Dreams Mat continues to court Tuon, much to the surprise of her maid Selucia, who sees Cauthon as a rogue and a vagabond.
A series of events ensue, as Mat realizes that Tuon is the woman he will marry, and during the later stages of the book, just as he is setting the Daughter of the Nine Moons free, she marries him, completing the Aelfinn prophecy.
