[edit] History
Former American Idol season 5 fourth-placer, Chris Daughtry, stated after he turned down Fuel's offer to make him lead singer of the band that he would form a new band.[1] On July 10, 2006 it was announced that Chris had signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA Records, which holds other American Idol finalists such as Kelly Clarkson, Bo Bice, and Carrie Underwood.
Though Chris is a singer-songwriter, he still collaborated with several other songwriters, such as LIVE's Ed Kowalczyk, Fuel's Carl Bell, Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down, Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, SR-71 singer Mitch Allan[2], and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Hit writers Dr. Luke and Max Martin also wrote on the album. At some point during or after this, Chris chose Jeremy Brady, 21, as one of the guitarist, Josh Steely, 36, as the lead guitarist, J.P. Paul, the bassist in his 20s, and Joey Barnes, the drummer, 30, to join the band. Interestingly, two of the band members hail from North Carolina who would be Joey, whom Chris had known for some time, and Jeremy who was introduced to him a month before the audition. Steely and Paul are both from California.[3]
The first single from the album, "It's Not Over," was originally planned to be released in September.[2] "It's Not Over" was released to radio on November 21st, 2006. The self-titled[4] debut album that the single comes from was released by 19 Entertainment and RCA Records on November 21, 2006. The album's producer is Howard Benson.[2] The second single choices is rumored to be either "Over You" or "Home".
WDCG 105.1 Raleigh's morning show Bob and the Showgram interviewed DAUGHTRY and were the first radio station to play tracks from their new album on October 26, 2006. The North Carolina State University Alumni Association and Student Homecoming Committee hosted Daughtry's homecoming solo concert with the new band. The concert was in Raleigh on November 3, 2006, at Reynolds Coliseum, after a Homecoming Parade on Hillsborough Street and a Wolfpack Pep Rally at Reynolds Coliseum.[5]
