Darren Hambrick (born August 30, 1975 in Lacoochee, Florida) is a former linebacker in the National Football League.
At 6'2" and 227 lbs, Hambrick had his best season in 2000 when he led the Dallas Cowboys with 154 tackles. Hambrick later played for the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers. He played college football for the University of South Carolina.
Hambrick's five-year NFL career was cut short because of his off-the-field issues. When he was in college, he was given a second chance to play football after an altercation in which he struck another player on the head with broken glass. During his NFL tenure, he attempted to steal paychecks from the Carolina Panthers, and he infamously asked the media, "What do [sic] voluntary mean?" when asked why he did not report to voluntary camp. He is also acquainted with two individuals suspected for murder.
However, Hambrick has attempted to turn his life around. He now receives counseling from a church minister and from police department chaplain. He is also currently attempting to get into shape to make a return to the NFL.
Darren is the brother of NFL running back Troy Hambrick.
