Darrell Garretson

Darrell Garretson (born in Long Point, Illinois) was a National Basketball Association (NBA) referee from 1970 to 1997 and served as Supervisor of Officials in the NBA from 1981 to 1997. Garretson, who wore uniform number 10 throughout his career, worked 1,798 regular season NBA games. He currently has a son, Ron, who is a referee in the NBA.
Outside of his NBA officiating career he served as manager of the Garden Grove, California Little League baseball team in 1968.
One of his best-known quotes came in Game 2 of the 1983 NBA Finals, when he faceitously promised Norm Nixon of the Los Angeles Lakers a steak dinner after making four bad calls.
