Darnerien McCants

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Darnerien McCants (born August 1, 1977 in Odenton, Maryland) is an American football wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. He was originally selected with the 23rd pick of the fifth round of the 2001 NFL Draft out of Delaware State University by the Washington Redskins. After showing promise as an end-zone threat in 2003, He fell out of favor with the new coaching staff and spent much of 2004 on the Inactive List. He was released prior to the 2005 season, and signed with the Eagles. Because he signed late in 2005, he did not have much time to learn the playbook and was released and re-signed multiple times during the season. When active in 2005, he primarily played on special teams. As of 2006, he was battling for a reserve wide receiver spot in preseason camp.

[edit] High school

As a senior at Arundel High School in Gambrills, Maryland, McCants was an All-State, All-County and All-Metro selection in his only season of organized high school football. He led his teams to county and regional championships.

[edit] College career

At Delaware State University, McCants played his best season as a senior, at tight end, tallying career-highs of 36 catches, 692 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. His touchdown total set Delaware State and MEAC records, and was No. 1 in Division I-AA.
