Darna Mana Hai (Hindi: डरना मना है, Urdu: ڈرنا منع ہے) is a Bollywood production, released on July 25, 2003. It was considered a unique and innovative attempt by (joint) producer Ram Gopal Varma and director Prawal Raman to provide Indian audiences with a horror film, but is based on the popular American TV-series Are You Afraid of the Dark?. It stars a host of Bollywood celebrities including Vivek Oberoi, Saif Ali Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Nana Patekar, Sohail Khan, and more.

Six stories. One ending.

Darna Mana Hai interweaves six stories into one film. Six friends get stuck in the middle of a forest when their car breaks down, and they find refuge in an abandoned house. To keep each other amused, they tell each other horror and supernatural stories that they have heard over a bonfire.

The first story is about a married couple (Sohail Khan and Antara Mali) who get stuck in the middle of a forest.

The second story involves a photographer (Saif Ali Khan) who checks into an inn while he is on his way to Mumbai. The owner-housekeeper-manager (Boman Irani) is a strange and eccentric man.

The fourth story revolves around a housewife (Shilpa Shetty) who buys "mysterious" apples from a strange vendor (Rajpal Yadav).

In the fifth story, an elder man (Nana Patekar) gets a lift outside a cemetery from a vibrant, young man (Vivek Oberoi). The older man tries to scare the younger into believing that he is a ghost, but the younger man turns out to be a ghost himself, and the older man dies gaping in shock.

The sixth and final story is about a young student (Aftab Shivdasani) who contemplates committing suicide, and is then blessed with extraordinary abilities. These six stories are depicted throughout the film and form the premise of Darna Mana Hai. [1][2]

The film, which opened in mid-2003, opened to an average response, but the box office figures declined rapidly after bad reviews and negative word-of-mouth. Domestically it earned $132,348. Although it was acclaimed for its daring and unique plot, DMH received a flop status [3].
