Dark Lady was Cher's third highly successful album of the seventies. The single and title track, "Dark Lady", got to number one in the Billboard Top 100 singles charts. This single was Cher's third and last number one single of the seventies.

In 1999, this album and Cher's previous album (Half Breed) were reissued onto one C.D. which featured all the tracks from "Dark Lady" and "Half Breed", this C.D. is now considered hard-to-find.
