Dark Ages is the fifth LP for metal band Soulfly. The album was released on October 4, 2005, more than a year from the previous one Prophecy. The album was strongly influenced by the death of Max and Gloria's (Max's wife) 8 month old son, Moses, who died on December 10, 2004.

[edit] The sound
Many critics have described Dark Ages as a return to to Cavalera's thrash and death metal roots of the early Sepultura days, its sound also has been compared to his Chaos A.D.-era, however the world metal influence found on the first four Soulfly albums is definitely present. This time, Cavalera traveled to five different countries - Serbia, Turkey, Russia, France, and the United States - in order to record all the sounds that he desired to have on the new album. The album also features a didgeridoo on 'Carved Inside' and a Jamaican thumb piano on 'Riotstarter' (Cavalera's favourite song on the record'), which further showcase Cavalera's desire to experiment within metal.
