Darbandokeh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Darbandokeh, is a village which was previously inhabited by both Kurds and Assyrians. It is located in the sub-district of Harir and in the district of Shaqlawa.

The Assyrians of Darbandokeh came right after the Assyrian genocide that took place within the Ottoman Empire. They came from the Şemdinli region, located within Hakkari, Turkey. After force migration in the late 20th century, today the village of Darbandokeh has no Assyrians remaining in it. Many now live in the United States or Canada.

Darbandokeh is the birthplace of many great Assyrians. It is where the current Patriarch of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, Mar Dinkha IV, was born. It is also the birthplace of the Secretary General of the Assyrian Universal Alliance, Emanuel Kamber Ph. D..
