I've just removed this from the entry

He first gained recognition in America when Irish rock group U2 had a massive hit with his composition, With or Without You. His music had an enormous influence on the many singer-songwriters to emerge in the late 90s, and Damien Rice, Damien Dempsey and Paddy Casey owe an enormous debt to his efforts to put Irish music on the international map.

Allmusic shows U2 as composers of "With or without you".

The impact DO'D had on the above singer is debatable but highly unlikely given the differinging styles of music

[edit] "He has many fans, young and old"

is that actually true? ive never met anyone under 50 who had any regard for him. Raemie 00:39, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Saw him in concert when I was 17, am now 26 and still a fan. 64.12.116.14 16:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Older Women?

"...by far the major part of his fanbase is older women" I would like to know on what evidence this claim is made, as there is no referencing. I think it is somewhat unfair on a man with fans both young and mature to claim that his fan-base is made up largely of old women, most of them spinsters, presumably. While it is true that Daniel appeals to those who may not enjoy loud, dirty music, these people are not necessariily old nor female. Would one expect to read an article about the Rolling Stones stating that their fans are largely men aged over forty? Guv2006 16:47, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

I think the people responsible for making such bland music popular need to be named and shamed.

I agree with the above comment, but that is enough about the rolling stones.

Guv2006 is bang on the money. What about Bing Crosby and Glenn Miller? Would it be apporiate to state in their artciles than most of there fans are either above 60 or dead? 64.12.116.14 16:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

None the less it is a common knowledge that Mr O'Donnel's fanbase is largely ( but not exclusively ) made up of old women. Just becuase it is not scientifically quantifyable it does not mean it shoudl not be a point of reference in the wikipedia.

[edit] Mainly old age pensioners

The claim that Danny O'Donnell's fans are mainly OAPs is unsubstantiated. Here are some photos which show the audience at one of his concerts:

If anything, I would rate the audience mixed age, but if anyone can provide evidence for a mainly "old" audience - go ahead. Linguini 23:08, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
