Danan (woreda)

Danan is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, named after its major town, Danan. Part of the Gode Zone, Danan is bordered on the south by the Shebelle River which separates it from the Afder Zone, on the west by Gode, on the north by the Degehabur Zone, on the east by the Korahe Zone, and on the southeast by Kelafo.

This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Darod clan of the Somali people.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 43,845, of whom 18,654 were males and 25,191 were females; 10,494 or 23.93% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 25.2%. Information is not available for the area of Danan, so its density cannot be calculated.[1]
