Dan Henning
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dan Henning (born June 21, 1942 in The Bronx, New York) is the former Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons (1983-1986) and the San Diego Chargers (1989-1991) of the NFL. He was also the head coach of the Boston College Eagles (1994-96). He is currently the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers. He has been heavily criticized for many of his play calls. Examples include the fact that while the Carolina Panthers are not statistically one of the best running teams, they rank first in runs between the tackles ("up the middle"). Other critics have pointed to his questionable play calls at the end of games (one example being the Redskins-Panthers game played on Nov. 26, 2006. With the Panthers down by 4 points and needing a touchdown to take the lead, and with less than 3 minutes left, Henning called several draw plays in a row including one on 3rd down with ten yards to go. The result: the Panthers failed to move the ball and lost a game they were heavily expected to win easily). As a result, many fans blame Henning for the Carolina Panthers' struggles during the 2006-2007 season, with many of his more vocal critics demanding his release or resignation.
