Daniel Hall is an Australian musician who has been in two Australian rock bands Taxiride, Airway Lanes which have both achieved reasonable success. Dan's musical career started out in 1997 writing and playing in a lounge room with friends Jason Singh, Tim Wild, Tim Watson in Camberwell, Melbourne. By 1998, they recorded a demo with songs which would be used for their first album by the unnamed band although in later time would name themselves Taxiride. The bands' first demo was given to a friend who was a taxi driver, so that he could play the demo to passengers in the cab. They would later ask how the demo was received whilst on the "taxiride". This was the inspiration for the group's name. Soon after, they signed a joint deal between Warner Music Group in Australia and Sire Records in the U.S., where they relocated to Ocean Way Recording studios in Los Angeles to work with producer Jack Joseph Puig. Their debut album Imaginate hit the #1 spot on the Australian charts and went double platinum spawning the top 10 hits Get Set and Everywhere You Go, along the way snaring a Best New Artist ARIA award. To support the global release of their debut album, the band toured Australia, America, Japan and Europe through 1999 and 2000. In 2001 Dan decided to leave Taxiride after only one album and refine his songwriting talents over the next few years. Dans next band involved himself and fellow songwriter/guitarist Chris Hawker starting out as an acoustic duo. Their first live appearance as an electric band Airway Lanes were a series of Sunday shows in early 2005 at the legendary Duke Of Windsor Hotel, with new members Spyder, playing drums and backup vocals, and Scrubby, on bass. In November 2005 they signed a record deal with label Dust Devil Music through Stomp. The band recorded their self-titled debut EP Airway Lanes in Sing Sing studios in Melbourne with producer/engineer Jimi Maroudas who had previously produced for popular artists Pete Murray, Living End. According to critics the EP has a very similar sound to R.E.M. or The Replacements at their early best, with bursts of Smiths and Nirvana inspired guitar work. Airway Lanes was released on April 3 2006 through Stomp and launched at the Corner Hotel, Richmond, on April 5.
