A Shadow in the Darkness: Danger Approaches Sasuke (Japanese: 闇にうごめく影 サスケに迫る危機！ - Yami ni ugomeku kage Sasuke ni semaru kiki!) is episode 51 of the anime series Naruto. The episode's storyline is from the Chūnin Exam manga arc.

Gaara has just defeated Lee, and the next match is Choji vs. Dosu. Choji realizes that Dosu uses sound as his attacks, so Choji uses Meat Tank. He is now a large ball, and his limbs and head are curled up. Moreover, he is rotating very quickly, so Dosu would be unable to use sound.
However, Dosu gets Choji to ram into a wall, and because of Meat Tank's size, Choji is unable to move. Dosu punches Choji in the behind, but Choji claims that he is wearing earplugs, so Dosu is unable to attack. However, the body is 70% water, which is the best medium for sound, so Choji's entire body is pretty much an ear. Dosu uses a sound attack, and Choji gets knocked out. This is the end of the preliminaries.
Back in the duel arena, Sarutobi congratulates the victorious, telling them that only one round still remains. That round is the main matches, and they have an entire month to prepare themselves for the fight. However, in the main matches, everybody knows their opponents well, from the previous two rounds and from the preliminaries. Various dignitaries throughout the land are also invited to watch the main matches.
While all of this is going on, elsewhere Orochimaru and Kabuto are talking about Sasuke. Orochimaru claims that being around Naruto (he calls him the Kyubi) is softening his heart and they need to separate them. He then tells Kabuto to kidnap Sasuke. Kabuto goes up to Sasuke's room and after killing the ANBU stationed there gets ready to kill the unconscious Genin with a scalpal. Even though Orochimaru told Kabuto not to kill Sasuke, Kabuto's intentions seemed to be just that. But Kakashi arrives and stops Kabuto. He demands to know if Kabuto is working for Orochimaru, but Kabuto won't give a clear answer. He pulls out another weapon and is about to stab Sasuke when Kakashi disables him and pins him to the floor. But he realizes something is up as one of the ANBU springs to his feet and runs for the door. Recognizing a Replacement Jutsu, Kakashi does his Shadow Clone Justu and corners him. But then another ANBU jumps up and jumps out the window, revealing the real Kabuto disguised amongst the corpses. Kakashi realizes that powerful enemies like this might be too much for him.
Last, the genins pick a number from a box, which determined who they will fight. 1=Naruto, 2=Neji, 3=Gaara, 4=Sasuke, 5=Kankuro, 6=Shino, 7=Temari, 8=Dosu, 9=Shikamaru. So for the second part of the third exam the matches will be: Match 1-Naruto vs Neji, Match 2-Sasuke vs Gaara, Match 3-Shino vs Kankuro, and Match 4-Dosu vs Shikamaru with the winner facing Temari.
Shikamaru wants more details, and the Third Hokage explains that this is not a winner-take-all tournament, but a chance for the genin to display their skills in the fairest possible manner. They will be judged on their overall performance more than their won/lost record.
Naruto realizes that this is going to be difficult, and approaches Kakashi the next day to get Kakashi to train him. However, Kakashi declines, and offers another teacher for Naruto: none other than the "closet pervert", Ebisu.

- Choji claimed to have been wearing earplugs during the fight; however, he was able to hear and understand everything that Dosu said (though he could be good at reading lips, which would be essential to his life style, but Dosu's lips are consealed). He also hears Ino call him fatty from a decent distance away. Ino was also behind him so he couldn't have read her lips. In the English dub Choji said that his ears were covered when he pulled his head in for the Meat Tank.
