Hi. I would like to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. -- getcrunkjuicecontribs 00:08, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello!
Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.
- Pick an image name.
- When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
- Source the image.
- On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
- Provide copyright and license information.
- This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
- If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
- If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
- Describe the image.
- To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Janetjackson1994.jpg)
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Janetjackson1994.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ➨ ≡ЯΞDVΞRS≡ 22:12, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Jacksonletterman.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jacksonletterman.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] More copyright violations
It is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy to add a copyrighted image to an article without providing a detailed fair-use rationale. You did this to Jeannie Ortega after the image had previously been removed. --Yamla 18:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Ericka Yancey - Ericka.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Ericka Yancey - Ericka.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 18:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Blocked
You have been blocked for your chronic violations of Wikipedia's image copyright policies after a great many warnings about this. When the block expires, you are welcome to resume editing. However, please refrain from uploading any further images until you have resolved the substantial problems with the images you have already uploaded. --Yamla 18:31, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Since when do you have to Source albums covers and screen captures? Two, the Jeannie Ortega photo is an obvious promo photo, its the same photo used on her album cover. I get banned for that? Wow! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dam!ta (talk • contribs).
- You have been warned about Wikipedia's copyright policies approximately seven times. And there's no evidence that the Jeannie Ortega photo is from a promotional kit or otherwise has been released for promotional purposes. Additionally, you initially claimed this was an album cover. All uploaded and copyrighted images must have an accurate source identifying the copyright holder, a correct license, and a detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image, as pointed out in the license text and in several of the comments above. --Yamla 18:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Its on her official MySpace page how is it not a promo photo? [1] You guys make a big deal over nothing. I bet my opinion will even get me banned. Who cares. I'm mean seriously. Over posting ALBUM PHOTOS? Nothing more than album photos. Why in the world would anyone have to source an album cover? WTF? Dam!ta 18:47, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Please see WP:V. You had provided no source indicating that this image was available at the official myspace page, nor is that a URL belonging to MySpace (though it is likely that the image is available on her MySpace page). --Yamla 18:55, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Happy? [2] Dam!ta 18:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that looks reasonable. You'll need to add the source, provide an accurate license, and add a hand-written detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the image. --Yamla 19:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Will do. But I never added that photo of Ortega. Dam!ta 19:01, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- You are certainly not obligated to add it, then, unless you are making use of the image. By the way, I will immediately unblock you if you believe you are now aware of what needs to be added to an image when you upload it or if you plan to make use of an image. It seems to me that you now are aware of this even if you think it is in many cases pedantic. --Yamla 19:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
I understand now. Thanks. :) Can I remove a lot of this from my talk page though? Because it looks horrible now. Dam!ta 19:08, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, you've been unblocked. You aren't permitted to remove current warnings from your discussion page but you are permitted to archive the entire contents of this page. Just copy all of the content from here to User talk:Dam!ta/Archive1 and then clear this page, leaving a link to the archive page at the top of this page. If that's confusing, give me a shout. --Yamla 19:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
