Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" was a hit song (#5) composed and performed by Sophie B. Hawkins in 1992. It is from her album Tongues and Tails.
The song was somewhat controversial in that towards the end of the song, the lyrics reveal it to be about a woman in love with another woman.
The original music video created for the song was also controversial: MTV banned it due to its erotic content, forcing a new, more mainstream video to be made. A portion of this original video is featured in the documentary The Cream Will Rise.
The song was covered in concert by The Eels in the mid-1990s. Spin Aqua also covered it on their mermaid single.
The song also contains a sample from "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin.
