Damar is a Cardassian officer in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine played by Casey Biggs. His full name is given as "Corat Damar" in the DS9 novel A Stitch in Time, although novels are not considered part of the Star Trek canon.
[edit] Early career and Dominion service
Damar was the apprentice of Gul Dukat for many years, starting with their mutual assignment to the Cardassian freighter Groumall when Damar was Glinn. He has great respect for Dukat and quickly becomes one of his most loyal officers, aiding Dukat in waging his private war against the Klingon Empire. Damar continues to serve under Dukat during the Dominion's occupation of Deep Space Nine.
Dukat's capture by Starfleet leads to Damar becoming a legate and the head of the Cardassian government, succeeding Gul Dukat. In this capacity, he works closely with the Vorta Weyoun to coordinate the Cardassian military's involvement in the Dominion's war against the Federation and its allies. Cardassia's huge losses during the war, about which Weyoun and the Dominion's Founders seem not to care, leads Damar to drown his sorrows in Kanar (Cardassian alcohol). Damar resents not being informed about the Dominion's negotiations to bring the Breen into the Dominion, and in general comes to realize that he is Cardassia's leader in title only.
[edit] Resistance leader
Damar breaks ranks with the Dominion when he helps prisoners of war Lieutenant Commander Worf and Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Ezri Dax escape from Cardassia Prime. Shortly thereafter, Damar makes a broadcast denouncing the Dominion and announcing the creation of a Cardassian underground movement geared toward freeing the Cardassian Union from the Dominion's yoke. They have an initial victory by destroying the Vorta cloning facilities on Rondack III – the facility at which the Weyoun line of clones is created. After his break with the Dominion, he is succeeded by Legate Broca as the leader of the Cardassian Union.
Recognizing the critical role Damar and his followers could play, Starfleet commissions former resistance fighter Kira Nerys as a Starfleet commander and dispatches her and Elim Garak to help Damar's group. With their help, Damar's group is able to continue to inflict damage on the Dominion, and Damar himself takes part in a mission to capture a Jem'Hadar ship equipped with a Breen energy-draining weapon.
Gul Revok's betrayal of the resistance helps lead to its virtual annihilation. While hidden on Cardassia Prime, Damar learns the Dominion has destroyed all of their bases. Learning, however, that the Cardassian people don't (want to) believe he and the resistance have been destroyed, Damar, Garak, and Kira carry out attacks on Dominion resources on Cardassia Prime, and Damar implores Cardassians to resist their occupiers.
During the Battle of Cardassia, Damar leads a small band in attacking the Dominion's headquarters on Cardassia Prime. Although he is killed shortly after getting inside the facility, the assault is a success, leading to the Female Changeling's capture and facilitating the Dominion's surrender.
