From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dalston is a village in the English county of Cumbria. It is situated on the B5299 road about four miles (6 km) south-south-west of Carlisle city centre.

The village has a church and a few shops, including a small Co-op and a post office which are centred around the small village square. It also has a bakery and a new sandwich shop called Crumbs, both of which are popular with the children from the local secondary school Caldew which has about 1000 pupils, and from year 11 they are allowed off the premises to eat their lunch in the village.

The village is on the River Caldew and is served by the Dalston railway station on the Cumbrian Coast Line. There are two schools in the village, and just outside the village there is a Nestlé beverage factory.

Dalston was the birthplace of sculptor Musgrave Watson (born in 1804).
