Dale City is an unincorporated community in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. Recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census designated place (CDP), the community had a total population of 55,971 as of the 2000 census.

Dale City is located at 38°38′54″N, 77°20′32″W (38.648284, -77.342350)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 39.0 km² (15.0 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 55,971 people, 17,623 households, and 14,327 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,436.9/km² (3,721.1/mi²). There were 18,171 housing units at an average density of 466.5/km² (1,208.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 56.85% White, 28.76% African American, 0.42% Native American, 5.07% Asian, 0.19% Pacific Islander, 4.27% from other races, and 4.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.89% of the population.

There were 17,623 households out of which 48.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 12.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% were non-families. 13.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.17 and the average family size was 3.48.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 3.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $65,355, and the median income for a family was $69,278. Males had a median income of $42,131 versus $32,984 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $22,363. About 3.1% of families and 4.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.8% of those under age 18 and 4.4% of those age 65 or over.
