DalOUT

DalOUT is the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered/transsexual, queer/questioning society at Dalhousie University. It is a B-level society of the Dalhousie Student Union[1].

[edit] Mandate
The mandate of DalOUT is laid out in the society's Constitution. The intent of DalOUT is to provide gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, two-spirited, gender variant, intersexed, queer individuals, and the people who support them with education, advocacy and support. The society also organized many social and fundraising activities on campus and in the Halifax community.
[edit] Resources & Services Offered
DalOUT educates members of Dalhousie University's faculty and student body, as well as the Halifax community regarding queer issues by holding workshops, special events, speaking engagements, and by the society's active participation in other community events.
DalOUT has an office/resource centre in the Dalhousie Student Union Building, and possesses a substantial resource library, which contains hundreds of titles to assist people in research and casual reading. The office can be used for confidential meetings, as the society executive are trained peer counsellors. The resource centre enables DalOUT to provide people with information regarding other queer/queer-positive services for additional support or referrals. The resource centre is a safe and accessible space for queer students and allies to congregate and feel comfortable.
DalOUT elects the LGBTQ Community representative who sits on Dalhousie Student Union Council.

In 2006, DalOUT was named 'B-Level Society of the Year' at the Dalhousie Student Union's annual Student Appreciation Night.
