Hook grip in weightlifting defines the holding method of the weight lifting rod, which is first gripped with the thumb, then the remaining fingers grips both the thumb and the rod.It can be used in both the events of weightlifting i.e in "snatch" and "clean and jerk"
Hook grip is the considered to be a more secure grip compared to a closed grip or natural grip where the thumb remains outside other fingers. Also, history of this sport reveals that athletes who use hook grip can lift more weight compared to those who use a closed grip.On the other hand, hook grip may not be suitable in the beginning as the thumb or thumnail starts soring but by regular training one can get used to it.
