Daisuke Ohata (大畑大介) was born on November 11, 1975 in Osaka. He usually plays rugby at wing, and sometimes centre, for Kobe Steel Kobelco Steelers in the Japanese Top League. He made his name internationally as a speedy ace in the IRB World Sevens Series, and is now a regular member of the Japan national rugby union team. He first played for Japan on November 9, 1996 and scored three tries that day.

Ohata is from the Kansai area and speaks with a strong Kansai (Osaka) accent. He attended rugby nurseries Tokai Dai Gyosei High School and Kyoto Sangyo University.

On May 14, 2006 Daisuke scored three tries for Japan against Georgia, in doing so breaking the world record for tries in test matches previously held by David Campese. Ohata has now scored 65 tries for his country in 55 games.

He achieved the record at Hanazono stadium in his native Osaka.
