This is the article about GM Daewoo's subcompact car. For the Chevrolet version sold in North America, Latin America, Europe and other markets, see Chevrolet Aveo.

The Daewoo Gentra is a subcompact car built by Korean company GM Daewoo, a subsidiary of General Motors. The name comes from the words "gentleman" and "transport."

The Gentra began sales in September 2005. The car is rebadged as the Chevrolet Aveo in most export markets, including North America (where it has replaced the Kalos-based sedan; the Kalos hatchback, also known as the Aveo, remains in the line-up) and Europe (where it replaces the Kalos sedan; the Kalos hatchback remains in the lineup).

In the European market, the car comes equipped with the 1.2 L SOHC S-TEC and the 1.4 L DOHC E-TEC II engines; Korean markets receive the 1.5 L SOHC E-TEC engine; and North American, Chinese and Australian versions will come with the 1.6 L DOHC E-TEC II engine.

The Daewoo Gentra (designated as the T250) is a further development of the Daewoo Kalos, designed in cooperation with PATAC. The sedan version was shown at the Shanghai Auto Show. It is available from launch only as a 4-door sedan; 3-door and 5-door hatchback versions will also be produced. Future designs will be integrated with the GM Gamma platform.

[edit] South Korea

Daewoo started selling the T250 sedan in September 2005 as the Daewoo Gentra, replacing Kalos sedan. Kalos reportedly means "beautiful" in Greek, while "Gentra" was derived from the English word "gentleman" and "transport(ation)". The tagline in the advertising campaign introducing the Gentra in Korea was "Are you gentle?", and the campaign starred Daniel Henny.

[edit] Canada

The second-generation Pontiac Wave sedan is sold as of the 2007 model year.

[edit] Mexico

The T200 is not sold, but the T250 sedan is sold as Pontiac G3.

[edit] Australia & New Zealand

The T250 sedan was introduced in February 2006, and both the T200 and T250 models are sold together as the Barina lineup.

[edit] Other markets

The T250 sedan is sold as Chevrolet Lova in China.
