D/Generation is a computer game for PC and Amiga computers, published by Mindscape in the 1990s.

D/Generation is an arcade adventure game with a puzzle element, taking place in a slightly cyberpunk futuristic setting. A French company called Genoq has developed a series of new genetically engineered bioweapons, and these bioweapons have run out of control and taken over Genoq's headquarters. Your character is a courier who has been requested to deliver a package to Genoq's CEO Jean-Paul Derrida. To reach your customer, you have to go through eleven floors of Genoq's headquarters, based in Singapore, all infested with bioweapons.

Each floor is made up of a series of interconnected rooms. In each room, there can be any combination of bioweapons, Genoq employees held hostage by the bioweapons, puzzle elements, or bonus items.

To be able to progress beyond a room, you must kill all bioweapons in it. Some rooms have an air duct vent which new bioweapons enter through. This vent must be sealed by walking over it. In your defense, you have a laser gun with unlimited ammunition, and a finite supply of grenades, which can be found in strategic places in the rooms. After you have killed the bioweapons in a room, you can rescue the hostage employees by walking towards them and leading them out of the room to safety. Each hostage who escapes the room alive earns you an extra life.

The puzzle elements usually come in the form of locked doors, which can be opened either by pressing or shooting switches, or with keys found elsewhere. Security laser beams and grenade launchers also hinder your progress in some places.

[edit] Bioweapons

The bioweapons come in four varieties:

A/Generation
A red ball that bounces randomly around the room. Attacks the character on contact by assimilating him and exploding.
B/Generation
A blue cylinder that bounces around the room, and will pounce rapidly upon any human it gets close to. It can hide in the floor.
C/Generation
Masquerades as a human or inanimate object, until your character tries to approach it, at which point it reveals its true nature and kills your character.
D/Generation
The boss bioweapon, the only one of its kind. Creates an alternate world in which the character is tied down, and subsequently crushed by a large weight.

A/Generations and B/Generations can be killed with your laser gun, but C/Generations require grenades to destroy. The D/Generation can only be killed by luring it in front of one of the building's microwave dishes that Derrida has managed to turn into the building before being imprisoned..
