D.A. Waite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Donald A. (D.A.) Waite is a leading spokesman for the King James Only movement. He has authored numerous books and produced many seminars explaining this position. He also pastors a home church in New Jersey called the Bible For Today Baptist Church. Waite uses the name Bible For Today for all of his ministry outreach, including his online web site and SermonAudio.com posts.
Waite is the direct successor of David Otis Fuller's teachings and continues to promote this basic approach to KJV defense, which relies heavily on theories originated by Seventh-Day Adventist scholar Benjamin G. Wilkinson (whose book Our Authorized Bible Vindicated is available online or here because the copyright has expired). (See The Unlearned Men).
Waite is the head of the Dean Burgon Society, which is closely linked to the Bible For Today ministry.

[edit] Doctrinal position
Waite is an independent Baptist who denies one of the five points of Calvinism, limited atonement. (See link to Calvin's Error of Limited Atonement below.)
[edit] Waite and BJU
Waite's own biography states: "Dr. D. A. Waite, received a B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in classical Greek and Latin from the University of Michigan in 1948, a Th.M. (Master of Theology), with high honors, in New Testament Greek Literature and Exegesis from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1952, an M.A. (Master of Arts) in Speech from Southern Methodist University in 1953, a Th.D. (Doctor of Theology), with honors, in Bible Exposition from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1955, and a Ph.D. in Speech from Purdue University in 1961. He holds both New Jersey and Pennsylvania teacher certificates in Greek and Language Arts." [1]
Waite's son, D.A. Waite, Jr., is a graduate of Bob Jones University.
Waite, Sr has recently begun expressing his views about how BJU does not uphold the King James Only position, and does not subscribe to his views on the textual history of the Bible. See, for example, an open letter to the school's president. Waite also authored BJU's Errors on Bible Preservation, available from his web site.
[edit] Publications
Waite has numerous publications available for sale. He both writes original material, and republishes hard-to-find, out-of-print material, especially from the 19th century figure Dean Burgon.
Notable publications:
- The Four-Fold Superiority of The King James Version is a presentation of his basic position, also available online.
- Defined King James Bible was produced by Waite's ministry to aid modern English speakers understand the text. (This Bible is similar to Liberty University's The King James Study Bible from 1988, which has center-column definitions of difficult words, but Waite's Bible lacks general study notes.)
