D.R. Horton is a Fortune 1000 company that was founded in 1978 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area by Donald R. Horton. D.R. Horton is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol DHI. D.R. Horton has been ranked as the largest homebuilder by units sold in the United States since 2003. In the fiscal year ending September 30, 2005, Horton reported over 53,000 units sold, and revenues in excess of $13 Billion USD. D.R. Horton builds single-family homes in 83 markets in 27 states, and employs 9,000 workers nationwide. The official slogan of D.R. Horton is "America's Builder," based upon the fact that the company occupies the top slot among America's largest homebuilders. The national headquarters of D.R. Horton are located in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, where the company occupies the D.R. Horton Tower, a 38-story skyscraper prominent in the Fort Worth skyline. The founder of D.R. Horton, Donald R. Horton, continues to serve the company as chairman of the board of directors. In 2006, Mr. Horton was ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 235th richest American, and 606th richest person in the world, with a reported net worth of $1.4 Billion USD.
