[edit] Album information
D'eux was written and produced by Jean-Jacques Goldman. It includes two successful singles: "Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore" and "Je Sais Pas". There were also some radio releases: in France ("Le Ballet") and Canada ("Destin" & "J'Irai Où Tu Iras"). A song called "Vole" was dedicated to Karine, Dion's niece who died the previous spring on cystic fibrosis.
In April 1995, a one-hour TV Special dedicated to Céline's new album was broadcasted on French television.
Three songs from D'eux (1, 4 & 12) were recorded in English and appeared on Céline's next album Falling into You.
Céline did the D'eux Tour to support the album. The show at the Zenith Theatre in Paris was recorded and released as Live à Paris, including 10 songs from D'eux. It was promoted by the following singles: "Les Derniers Seront Les Premiers (Live)," "J'Attendais (Live)," and "Je Sais Pas (Live)."
D'eux and the leadoff single "Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore" won many awards, including: Juno Awards, Félix Awards, Victoires de la Musique, and others. Céline received also the Medal of Arts and Letters from France’s Minister of Culture Recognizing her Status as the Best Selling French-language Artist in History.
Many songs from D'eux were featured on Dion's 2005 greatest hits album On Ne Change Pas.
Sony BMG released a special gold-disc edition of D'eux album, on November 6, 2006 in France. It re-entered the Back Catalogue Chart at #7.
[edit] Chart success
D'eux is the best-selling French album of all time. It became the best-selling French-speaking album in Canada and in the world, best selling album in France (no matter the language) - 4,408,800 copies sold. In total, D'eux sold around 9 million copies worldwide. The album reached #1 in 3 countries: France (44 consecutive weeks at the top), Netherlands and Switzerland, and charted also in many non-French speaking countries like United Kingdom where it peaked at #7 (a record for a French release in UK). D'eux became the first French-language album ever to be certified gold in UK as well. Dion's next album Falling into You entered the chart in France at 2nd place, since the 1st one was still occupied by D'Eux.
The album contains two #1 singles in France and Québec: "Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore" and "Je Sais Pas." The first one reached also top 10 in UK and Ireland (another record for a French release). "Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore" spent 12 weeks at the top of the singles chart and sold 1 million copies in France. "Je Sais Pas" spent 7 weeks at the top of the chart and sold 0.5 million copies in that country.
