Oberkassel is a quartier of Düsseldorf, which lies on the left side of the river Rhine, the opposite side of the central district of Düsseldorf.

First mentioned was the settlement Heerdt in the 9th century D.C.. In the year 1898 the Brigde of Oberkassel between heerdt and Düsseldorf was opened. 1909 Heerdt, and with Heerdt Oberkassel, became a part of Düsseldorf. In the 20th century Oberkassel became a richer quartier of Düsseldorf.

In Oberkassel live about 17,000 inhabitants, medial age is 44 years. Oberkassel is a social well-situated part of Düsseldorf.

A great part of the Japanese community of Düsseldorf live in Oberkassel. There are a Japanese kindergarten and a Japanese school in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel. In Oberkassel there exists a Japanese cultural centre, the Eco-House, too, and a Buddhist temple.

  • Rom.-Cath. St. Antonius Church, constructed between 1909 and 1910 by Josef Kleesattel in the neoromanic style
  • Evangl. Resurrection Church (Auferstehungskirche), built between 1913 and 1914 by Julius Stobbe and Wilhelm Verheyen
