The Czech Republic is one of the few European countries that have yet to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, even though they have been eligible to do so for some time.

They wanted to participate in 2005 but eventually withdrew because there were already two big events planned that year on Czech television.

One year later they didn't apply because their candidate had to start in the semi final, so they weren't sure that there would be a Czech entrant in the final on Saturday.

However, on 19 April 2006, the Czech national Broadcaster stated that they would enter the contest in 2007.

The first ever Czech entrant will be chosen through a national final in early March 2007, which will have 10 songs competing, with the winner chosen by telephone and internet voting. Some of the participants will be chosen from the public, and some will be 'wildcards' specially invited by Czech Television, to ensure that some famous Czech acts will be present. The first 2 acts to be considered to be given 'wildcards' in this way are the rock bands Support Lesbians and Kryštof.

The Eurovision Song Contest broadcaster for the Czech Republic is Česká televize.

Eurovision will be known as Eurosong in Czech.
