Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page was originally for listing cut and paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself. (There is a procedure for doing it, but 1. only admins can do it, and 2. it's a bit tricky.)

Currently the only technical limitation is that category and image description pages can't be moved.

[edit] To list an article here

  • Place a {{db-histmerge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done.
  • If the issue is clear-cut (straight up cut and paste move to a better title), having this speedy delete tag on the page should be enough. In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut and paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section.

Please add new requests to the top of the New Requests section. Thanks.

[edit] Completed requests

  • We have two articles on Abdul Qayyum, a retired Pakistani general. General Abdul Qayyum is wikified, and is the older of the two, but Abdul Qayyum has a sizable edit history, although I don't see much if anything that could be merged. I was going to tag Abdul Qayyum {{db-move}}, but on reflection, while the move is a no-brainer, there's probably too much history to just speedy delete the target. Not an urgent request, but can someone merge the histories and move General Abdul Qayyum to Abdul Qayyum ? I haven't tagged the article because it is not really a cut and paste move (or I don't think it is), but it needs fixing all the same. Much appreciated ! • Ōkami and Talk:Ōkami. Article was moved to Ōkami (video game) and the Ōkami article converted into a disambig page (between Ōkami (video game) and Japanese Wolf). There was no discussion, strawpolling, or prior consensus about this move, and could only cut-and-paste revert; article needs its page history merged from Ōkami (video game) back to Ōkami, and its Talk page does too. --Stratadrake 20:32, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  • K.d. lang was cut and pasted to K.D. Lang, then left as a redirect. Edits to C&P target should be added to old article, but the old article title should be kept. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 18:38, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
    • We don't determine move debates (that's what WP:RM is for), we just merge histories. If this is controversial, you should take the page name discussion there (but I'll be happy to merge the history for you). Snoutwood (talk) 21:19, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I'm not in the debate and I am not asking for anything of the sort. I just want to see the histories merged. I'm sorry if my message implied otherwise. Thanks for your help. youngamerican (ahoy hoy) 21:31, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
        • No, no, the apologies are all mine, I misinterpreted what you were saying. Done, and thank you for your patience. Snoutwood (talk) 00:12, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requests which cannot be fulfilled

  • Talk:Mr. Satan (Dragon Ball) to Talk:Hercule (Dragon Ball) same subject, split talk page histories. Will (message ) 20:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I don't think these pages can or should be merged. At best one could be moved to an archive subpage of the other, but that does not require admin assistance. For now, I'd suggest just making sure both pages link to each other and waiting until the naming debate is fully settled first. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 14:19, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
