Cuttack is a district in the Indian state of Orissa. Its headquarters is the town of Cuttack.

Land of antiquities, monuments and handicrafts, the district Cuttack has a modern port at Paradeep. The growing industrial centers at Choudwar, Vyasnagar and Dhanamandal and handicraft centers at Maniabadi, Ghantimunda and Lalitgiri have made Cuttack district all the more paddy fields with patches of hamlets thickly shaded with trees has its serene appeal to the eye of the visitors.
Hemmed by the district of Puri, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Balasore, the district Cuttack can be called the granary of eastern Orissa as it yields bumper crop round the year.
Cuttack the administrative headquarter of the district is one of the oldest towns of Orissa and the former capital of the state. It was known as the apex of the delta formed by the rivers Mahanadi in the north and Kathajodi in the south. Cuttack possibly one of the best shopping centers in Orissa Its unique filigree and silver ware, horn and brass work and textiles of woven silk and cotton make Cuttack town perhaps the grandest show room of Orissa.
The river bank of Cuttack are protected by the stone revetment, a great engineering marvel of 11th century. It is a remarkable example of ancient technological skill of Orissa.
The ruins of the fort Barabati with its moat and gate and the earthen mound of the nine-storied palace of the Gangga dynasty lie on the bank of the river Mahanadi as the silent witness of the vicissitudes of Orissan history. Another item of interest for the visitors is to visit Barabati, the Stadium, adjacent to the fort. The Stadium with its impressive structure covers an area of twenty five acres and affords sitting capacity for more than thirty thousand persons. Its construction work stated in the year 1954. Since then its delightful soft green turf hums almost daily with programs of sport events and cultural functions.
