Cuthburga

Saint Cuthburga (died ca. 725 AD) was the first abbess of Wimborne Minster. She was the sister of Ine, King of Wessex and was married to the Northumbrian king Aldfrith, though she later separated from her husband in order to become a nun at Barking under St Hildelith.
In 705, she founded the monastery at Wimborne with her sister Saint Quenburga (Saint Coenburga).
She is described as austere, and she communicated with prelates through a little hatch in the nunnery at Wimborne. This is reported in the hagiography of Saint Lioba, who had been instructed by Cuthburga. The feast day associated with her is August 31.
