Wormwood: Curious Stories from the Bible
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wormwood: Curious Stories from the Bible is an album made by avant-garde musicians The Residents. It was released in 1998 and it is a concept album. The album's purpose is to state some of the more negative stories in the Bible, not to condemn or condone, but to give people a greater understanding, although the liner notes do sometimes give a sarcastic and almost mocking sense.
- "In the Beginning" is about the creation of the Earth and is entirely instrumental.
- "Fire Fall" is about Lot watching his wife getting killed.
- "They Are The Meat" is about Ezekiel's visions whilst he is forced to eat only bread and sleep on his side.
- "Melancholy Clumps" is about Noah building the Ark.
- "How To Get A Head" tells us the tale of John the Baptist.
- "Cain And Abel" tells us the story of the jealous Cain killing his brother.
- "Mr. Misery" is about Jeremiah and his suffering.
- "Tent Peg In the Temple" is about the killing of Sisera.
- "God's Magic Finger" is about the story of King Belshazzar.
- "Spilling The Seed" is about the story of Onan.
- "Dinah And The Unclean Skin" is about the story of Dinah.
- "Bathsheba Bathes" is about King David and Bathsheba.
- "Bridegroom Of Blood" is about Moses being attacked by God and the wife of Moses intervenes by performing circumcision on her husband.
- "Hanging By His Hair" tells us the story of Absalom and his death.
- "The Seven Ugly Cows" is about Joseph and his visions.
- "Burn Baby Burn" tells us the story of Jephtha sacrificing his daughter.
- "KILL HIM!" is the story of God telling Abraham to sacrifice his son and gives us an insight into his possible thoughts (all lyrics are told from the point of view from a person in a story, usually being the main person, but there is an exception).
- "I Hate Heaven" is a poem found in the Bible.
- "Judas Saves" is told from the point of view of Judas, and the group puts forward the ideas that if it weren't for Judas betraying Jesus, then people could not have their sins forgiven, and proposes also that Judas had perhaps been told by God to do so.
- "Revelation" is an instrumental about the passages Revelations of John 4-22.
