Current rating

A current rating is a maximum limit provided by a manufacturer. The current rating is normally for continuous current (electrical wire) but can also be for peak current (fuse).

When designing an electrical system, you will normally need to know the current rating for the following:

  • Wires
  • PCB tracks
  • Fuses
  • Breakers
